Meet Jensen, West Place's latest arrival

September 16, 2022

By Jen Campisi

Jensen, a three week old Holstein Friesian dairy cow, has recently joined the family of rescued and rehabilitated animals at West Place Animal Sanctuary in Tiverton.

Jensen was rescued after being separated from his mother and sent on his way to an auction in western Massachusetts.

“He was definitely not going to have a long life unless someone had stepped in,” said Patrick Cole, Director of Development and Communications for West Place. “The average natural lifespan is about 20 years, which means he’s going to be with us for a while, but also means a lot of care, and a lot of food. We did some quick math, and on average, it will cost about $250 a month for basic care and to feed him because he’s going to be eating a lot of hay.”

West Place continues to seek donations and help from the public to set Jensen up for success and make sure that he gets the basic care he needs.

Want to meet Jensen? West Place is hosting its annual Fall Visitors’ Weekend this Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept.18 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Sign up for a tour at www.westplace.org/visitors-weekends.
