Shelter animals gain $71,000 from Shekarchi golf benefit

House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi last Friday presented proceeds from his Fifth Annual Shekarchi Scramble held at Top Golf earlier this year. The event drew legislators, lobbyists, celebrities, union members and representatives from the animal-rescue community statewide.
At the gathering at the Warwick Animal Shelter on Dec. 12, $35,500 was presented to the Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter, whose president, Judy Salvadore, teamed up with stateRep. Jackie Baginski, D-District 17, Cranston, to stage the scramble; $30,500 went to West Place Animal Sanctuary and $5,000 to the Potter League for Animals.
“FOWAS intends to use our donation according to our mission, which is to help the shelter animals with veterinary care, special foods and medicines, enrichment programs and anything else they need to be healthy, happy and adoptable,” said Salvadore.
