There are many ways to kick off the holidays, but only one involves meeting a pig named Diane or being greeted by a horse named Happy. West Place Animal Sanctuary is bringing back its beloved Holiday Shop and Stroll, a two-day tradition that replaces Black Friday chaos with rescued animals, handcrafted goods, and plenty of warm-and-fuzzy cheer.
The sanctuary opens its gates for its final public visitors weekend of the year, offering 90-minute guided tours through the scenic farm property. Along the way, guests meet the resident lineup of animal celebrities. Happy the horse is making a cheerful debut, while longtime favorites Jack and Diane, the sanctuary's iconic pig duo, remain front-and-center for anyone hoping for a dose of barnyard charm.
Tours spotlight each animal's rescue story and, in true holiday spirit, reveal who has been naughty this year and who has been nice. The experience blends humor with heart, making it an easy fit for anyone looking to ease into the season or add a feel-good twist to Small Business Saturday.
Once the tour wraps, the West Place Gift Shop opens its doors to all things festive. Shoppers can browse handmade crafts, artwork, jewelry, and seasonal decor that feel right at home on a mantel or under a tree. Every purchase helps support the sanctuary's mission, since the organization relies entirely on community support to fund its rescue, rehabilitation, and wildlife care programs.
Behind all the holiday sparkle sits meaningful work. Founded in 2007, West Place operates as the oldest and largest sanctuary of its kind in the state and serves as a licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility caring for sick and injured waterfowl and game birds. Funds raised during the event support the rescue and responsible care of farm animals who have survived cruelty, abuse, or neglect.
Cozy, heartfelt, and just the right amount of magical, the Holiday Shop and Stroll offers a festive reset built on compassion, community, and more than a few unforgettable animal encounters. For more information, visit WestPlace.org.
