Anyone can visit a farm, but not every farm introduces you to animals with comeback stories.
That’s what makes a visit to West Place Animal Sanctuary feel different. Set along Main Road in Tiverton, the nonprofit sanctuary has built its reputation not simply on animal encounters, but on creating moments of connection between visitors and the rescued animals that now call the property home. On May 30-31, guests will have the chance to experience that firsthand during Spring Visitors Weekend, the sanctuary’s first public visitors event of the year.
Over two days, visitors can join guided 90-minute tours across the historic grounds, where each stop introduces a new personality and a new perspective. The experience goes beyond meeting animals. Guests hear stories of rescue, recovery, and second chances that transform a casual outing into something unexpectedly memorable.
Among this year’s newest residents is Pua, a piglet likely to steal a few hearts before the tour even begins. Visitors can also meet Tad, a Mandarin duck with undeniable charm, and reconnect with returning favorite Happy, the racehorse whose lineage traces back to famed champion Secretariat.
The weekend invites guests to linger a little longer, too. Between tours, visitors can browse the spring plant sale, explore the West Place Gift Shop, and be among the first to see the sanctuary’s custom Defender 130, created specifically for West Place following its recognition through the 2025 Defender Service Awards. Driving tours offered each afternoon make the experience accessible for visitors who prefer to stay off their feet.
While the day feels easygoing, the mission behind it is anything but. Every ticket supports West Place’s rescue efforts, helps cover rising medical costs, funds educational opportunities for local students, and sustains wildlife rehabilitation work during Baby Wildlife Season.
